CONGESTION IN THE PORT OF DUNKIRK
Exceptional situation in the port of Dunkirk, which is reaching saturation point and causing long waiting times for full containers to enter and leave the terminal.
SIGNIFICANT TRANSIT VOLUMES
August was a very busy month for the port of Dunkirk, which handled a large quantity of goods in a short time. Volumes increased at each call and successive calls without the land evacuation capacity of full containers increasing, thus gradually reducing the space available on the terminal.
The lengthening of container dwell times, the high level of empty containers and the multiplication of port operations linked to the overstocking of equipment, result in longer appointment times and waiting times for carriers.
The Port of Dunkirk hopes to improve the situation quickly, in particular by finding solutions to give priority to the evacuation of empty containers and with the end of the summer vacations.
Some road hauliers, in order to face the additional costs generated by this situation, are setting up a port overload until the situation returns to normal.
