Australian government issues seasonal measures for bmsb
The department of agriculture and water resources (DAWR) will put in place robust import conditions to avoid the eruption of the brown marmorated stink bug on the australian territory
These measures, which run from September 1, 2018 through April 30, 2019, will cover all goods transiting to Australia by sea. The draft measures include the following actions:
- Mandatory treatment of certain categories of goods by three different treatments: Methyl bromide fumigation: not available in Europe ; High heat treatment: temperature to reach 56°C for 30 minutes ; Sulfuryl fluoride fumigation
- Heightened audits/treatments at the Port of Entry
- Target high risk and target risk goods requiring mandatory treatment and arriving untreated will be either destroyed or will be refused entry on the Australian territory, unless exceptional circumstances are granted
See the BMSB treatment scheme here
It should be noted that once the treatment is done accordingly, a 48-hour delay must be respected before shipping the goods by sea. In addition, a surcharge will be applied by the shipping companies.
Target risk countries by these seasonal measures are the following: USA - Italy - Germany - France - Russia - Greece - Hungary - Romania - Georgia - Japan.
You will find the list of target high risk and target risk goods concerned on the Australian Government website.
At present, these measures are not affecting goods transiting by air freight.
The teams of BALGUERIE are at your disposal for any additional information.
Please note: These measures also concern New Zealand (only vehicles)
