FREE TRADE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE EUROPEAN UNION AND JAPAN: JEFTA
Entering into force on February 1, 2019, it covers more than 630 million people and represents nearly a quarter of the world's GDP.
In concrete terms, JEFTA removes customs duties on 90% of products exported to Japan, such as cheese and wine exports. For other products, customs duties will be gradually eliminated over a period of 20 years for Japan and 16 years for the EU. Eventually, there will be 97% less tariffs on exported goods.
JEFTA is an Economic Partnership Agreement, similar in structure to other comprehensive agreements concluded by the European Union with other countries. REX regulations are applied for European exporters so that their customers benefit from tariff preference. Imports to the EU are subject to reduced rates by proving the origin of the imported goods with a certificate of origin issued by the Japanese exporter.
With a worldwide presence and a network of agents throughout the world, Balguerie can meet all your international transport needs. Do not hesitate to call on our dedicated teams.
